An inspirational, life giving, joyful course.
— Rebecca

After the success of the 2019/20 pilot programme, in June 2020 we launched our 8-week online courses, bringing together new mothers and their babies in an inspiring, relaxed and supportive environment. Since then we’ve run nine seasons of courses, and every single one has been a sell-out. Workshops are led by novelist and Mothership Writers founder Emylia Hall, and are designed for mums with babies aged two or under; here you'll explore your experience of new motherhood, find confidence in the power of your own voice, and learn the fundamentals of creative writing. With a maximum of 18 participants* for each 8-week online course, our workshops are a friendly and safe space where you can make connections and share stories – and fall in love with writing.

HOW IT WORKS

  • Each week you'll have a live Zoom workshop with your Mothership crew, including guided writing exercises and teaching that covers the principles of writing craft. Time will be divided between exploring motherhood from a personal perspective and focusing on key aspects of creative writing, from style to structure. Duration: one hour, weekly (x 8 sessions).

  • All workshop teachings will be circulated ahead of each session, so you can revisit what we've covered at your leisure (or catch up if you ever can't make the session); you'll be able to create your own file of creative writing know-how and inspiration – as well as building up a collection of your own written pieces.

  • Optional homework assignments and extra exercises will also be provided so you can keep up your writing between sessions. Or save for a time in the future! You always get to work at your own pace.

  • You'll also enjoy access to a closed Facebook group where you can chat with your course mates, share inspiration, reading tips, post pieces of writing, and ask Emylia about any aspect of the writing and publishing process.

Mothership Writers: winter mondays

I now have a collection of pieces for my daughter when she is older, things I would have always dreamed to write down but would never have found the time.

*For each course there are two places available for people who couldn't otherwise afford to take part. For more information and to apply for these fully subsidised places, contact Mothership Writers.
